What is GuessFlicks?

GuessFlicks is a free daily movie guessing game. Each day a hidden film is chosen and your job is to figure out what it is — one guess at a time. Every guess returns a similarity score showing how close you are, plus clue chips that reveal overlapping genres, decade, director, and cast. The closer you get, the higher the score. Hit 100% and you've found the movie.

The game was built by a small independent team of film fans who wanted something like Wordle, but for movies — with a little more depth than a single yes/no answer. The similarity-score mechanic means every guess teaches you something, so even a wrong answer moves you forward.

GuessFlicks is free to play. Registered accounts are also free and unlock ad-free play and stat tracking. A premium tier ($1.99/mo) adds Discover Mode, which lets you choose a genre, decade, and difficulty and get a fresh random challenge anytime.

How to Play

Each day a hidden movie is chosen.
Type a movie title in the search box and submit your guess.
Each guess returns a similarity score (0–100%) showing how close you are.
The 🔥 Hotter / 🧊 Colder indicator tells you if your latest guess is closer or further.
Clue chips reveal overlapping genres, decade, director, and cast.
Use hints to reveal more clues when you're stuck.
Keep guessing until you find the movie!

Game Modes

🟢

Easy: Curated for approachability — movies from 1980 onward, with a minimum popularity threshold so you're always guessing something recognisable. Concert films, live shows, making-of features, and pure documentary or music releases are excluded.

🔴

Hard: The full movie catalog with no year or popularity restriction — including older and more obscure films. Concert films, live shows, and making-of features are still excluded. Release year is shown with every guess.

DiscoverPremium: Pick a genre, decade, and popularity level — we'll pick a random movie to challenge you. Up to 9 guesses, with a comeback bonus after 3 hours. Multiple games at once. Premium only.

Similarity Score

Each guess is scored on how similar it is to the hidden movie — based on themes, genre, director, cast, and decade. The closer the match, the higher the score. 100% means you found the movie!
